Vijay awards

It is time again to gear up for the Reliance Mobile Vijay Awards. Its prodigious success in the year 2007 was attributed to the democracy in selection. In other words, fans were given a chance to vote for their favorite stars.

Awards in 2007 and the strength and support of the Tamil film fraternity gives us the pleasure and pride to host this year’s Vijay Awards. We are confident that the awards will be a hit this year as well.”

This year, about 107 movies released in the year 2007 will vie with each other to gain the top spot. Of these films, fans will get a chance to vote for their favorite hero, heroine, director and film thereby pushing them for nomination.

To get closer to the fans, Rasigan Express, a mobile van, will go around important cities like Chennai, Kovai, Erode, Madurai, Salem, Thanjavur and Tiruchirapalli seeking for fans to nominate their stars. The van will be flagged off on 19th March 2008. The chief guests would be: Hon'ble Minister for Information, Tamil Nadu, Parithi Illamvazhuthi, Mr. Ramanarayanan, President of the Tamil Film Producers’ Council, Mr. S. A Chandrasekhar, President of the Tamil Film Directors’ Association, Mr. Sarathkumar, President of the Tamil Actors Union and Mr. FEFSI Vijayan, President of the Film Employee’s Federation of South India.

The five most voted name in each of the four categories will be selected from these nominations for viewer voting through IVR, SMS and online.

This favorite awards apart, the jury will select 22 best awards and 4 special awards. The 4 special awards are Chevalier Sivaji Ganesan Award for Excellence in Cinema, Award for Contribution to Cinema, Best Entertainer, which will be chosen by the film industry and Icon of the Year, to be chosen by media agencies and clients.

The awards ceremony will be a glittering affair and will be hosted by popular stars Yuhi Sethu and Kushboo. The panel of judges comprises actor-director Bhagyaraj, film critic Madan and film analyst Lizzy Priyadarshan. The ceremony, as always, will have scintillating performances by some of the well-known stars and performers.

Rasigan Express’ journey, the judges discussing the movies and the probable nominations will be aired on Vijay TV. And finally, the ceremony will be telecast during the last week of March 2008.
