Its tarun gopes style
There are many directors in Kollywood who are also successful producers. Some of them produce and direct their own films while some others give opportunity to newcomers. In Kollywood, director Shankar had floated his company called S pictures which discovered talents like Balaji Sakthivel, Vasantha Balan and Simbu Devan. Mani Ratnam, Lingusamy and Ameer are also into production besides being successful directors.Following the foot steps these director turned producers, Tharun Gopi, director of Thimiru and Kaalai also has launched a company called Madura Talkies. The first film to come out from this banner will be ‘Kaattu Payale’ which will be directed by Tharun’s assistant Kalaiazhagan. Kaattu Payale is slated to have only newcomers in the cast.

Simbhu becomes editor
Looks like Silambarasan wants to master all trades, particularly in the film industry. His interest in films and filmmaking is well known. This has been substantiated yet again.Editor Anthony recently presented Rs. 25,000 to Silambarasan for his work in Kaalai. Giving a detailed account in this, Anthony said that Silambarasan had worked with him for Kaalai during editing. This had considerably reduced his workload. With Silambarasan doing the assistant job to perfection Anthony seems to have remunerated him for his work
Its kettavans birthday
Birthday boy Silambarasan, busy with his current project, Silambattam, seems to have not found much time to celebrate his birthday this year. Due to this, celebrations seem to have taken a backseat for the time being for this actor. His birthday falls on February 3rd. Not to mention, Silambarasan, amidst his busy schedule in Kumbakonam shooting for his film, made it a point to visit his home in Chennai to receive the blessings of his parents. That’s being a mama’s boy! Silambarasan thanks all his fans and well-wishers who wished him in person, through phone and e-mails.

Top 10 movies of the week

Cast: Tamanna, Akhil, Balamurugan, Hema
Direction: Balaji Sakthivel
Music: Joshua Sridhar
Production: Shankar
Balaji Sakthivel’s second venture with Shankar’s S pictures has been received with decent response, courtesy his matter-of-fact portrayal of socio-economic issues in a rural college milieu sans any skin show that usually accompanies such ventures.
Trade Talk:
Although, it wasn’t like the roaring success of his previous Kaadhal, Kalloori hasn’t been a let down for the distributors.

Cast: Surya, Asin, Vadivelu, Lakshmi
Direction: Hari

One of the very few movies to have survived since Deepavali at the box office, Hari’s Vel with Surya and Asin is still alive and kicking in a few centers.

Hit!

Surya – Asin chemistry seemed to have worked, yet again.

Cast: Ashok, Visaka, Ganja Karuppu
Direction: Kanagu
Music: Manu Ramesan
Production: Senbagakumar
With a whole bunch of newcomers and lesser known artistes, Director Kanagu, erstwhile assistant director to Linguswamy, debuts with Pidichirukku. However, everything else is not so new in the flick.
Trade Talk:
The movie has had a below average opening and run during the Pongal week. Future doesn’t look rosy either.

Cast: Madhavan, Bhavana
Direction: Seeman
Music: Yuvan Shankar Raja
Production: T. Shiva
Madhavan and Seeman are back -- definitely not with a bang -- after the successful Thambi with a banal formula fare. Madhavan and Bhavana’s chemistry is the only inescapable element of Vazhthukkal.
Trade Talk:
No gung ho!
Public Talk:
Aren’t we tired of guy-meets-nice-girl-falls-in-love type romances yet?

Cast: Bharath, Kajal Agarwal, Kushboo
Direction: Perarasu
Music: Srikanth Deva
Production: Sakthi Chidambaram
Forget about Perarasu’s fetish of naming movies after places, his obsession over clichéd and old-formulae commercial fare seems never ending. If you haven’t had enough of those 80s fashioned hero who is the savior of his sister’s pride and the redeemer of his family’s dignity, you will enjoy Bharath in Pazhani.
Trade Talk:
No great shakes about it since Pazhani has had only average business even when it opened.
Public Talk:
So what next? Sabarimala?

Cast: Cheran, Sneha, Jeyaram
Direction: Karu Pazhaniappan
Music: Vidyasagar
Production: Gnanam Films
Karu Palaniappan – Seran – Sneha team’s subtle and eloquent family drama seems to be the only buoyant competitor with substance. With a truck load of cast and a beautifully crafted story about a joint family, Palaniappan’s conviction about the script is evident in every frame.
Trade Talk:
Although a tad early for predictions, Pirivom has done decent business during the Pongal week.
Public Talk:
A word of mouth could definitely uplift the movie’s stature, which is more than likely.

Cast: Ajith, Nayantara, Namitha, Prabhu
Direction: Vishnuvardhan
Music: Yuvanshankar Raja
Production: L.Suresh
Vishnuvardhan proved that a stylish package could do wonders for a movie, especially when the movie was a remake of an outdated cult classic. Ajith’s sheen hasn’t lost even after the box office is flooded with Pongal releases.
Trade Talk:
With five weeks in the run, Billa has garnered enough profit to be safely pronounced a hit.
Public Talk:
Haven’t we ogled enough about the classy Nayan and sleek Namitha?

Cast: Silambarasan, Vedhika, Sangeetha, Nila
Direction: Tarun Gopi
Music: G V. Prakash
Production: NIC Arts Chakravarthy
Simbu ended his extended break with Kaalai for Pongal. Directed by Tarun Gopi, Kaalai is packed with a little too much mindless action - and only that - even with an impressive line up of actors. Eye candy Vedhika or sidekick Sangeetha couldn’t help either.
Trade Talk:
Simbu’s charm has pulled in the crowd for the movie’s first week in the run.
Public Talk:
Fans of Simbu seem to have something to talk about.
No. Days Completed: 4
No. Shows in Chennai over the Pongal week: 152
Average Theatre Occupancy over this Pongal week: 80 %
Collection over this Pongal week in Chennai: Rs.35,81,436
Total collections in Chennai: Rs.36 lakhs
Verdict: Good opening

Cast: Vikram, Trisha, Prakash Raj, Raguvaran
Direction: Linguswamy
Music: Harris Jayaraj
Production: A M Rathnam
Vikram’s long awaited release ending his sabbatical of more than two years has finally hit the screens. Predictably, Bheema turned out to be a gangster fare with more brawn and less brain. And the ups being, Vikram’s charisma, Prakashraj’s histrionics, Trisha’s vibrancy, and HJ’s music.
Trade Talk:
Thanks to the hype that was generated owing to Vikram’s absence from the scene, the movie has opened to full houses.
Public Talk:
If only the few ups were enough to save it.

Kaalai:movie review

Cast : Silambarasan, Vedhika, Sangeetha, Nila
Direction: Tarun Gopi
Music: G V. Prakash
Production: NIC Arts Chakravarthy
Story:
Simbhu shares his name with two other people - one villain and one cop-turned-baddie and the situations arising out of it promise enough curiosity for a while as soon as the movie opens. However, it eventually fizzles out when the movie takes a turn for better or for worse.
Seema – Simbhu’s grandmother – slays five men, mind you when she was only ten, since they flouted her father’s advices and distilled alcohol illegally in the village also involving in other shady activities. The villagers, for her noble act, consider her their head after her return from the prison and are peaceful under her reign. However, trouble crops up in the name of a police officer – Lal – whose ego is hurt when challenged by the fellow policeman’s son that he can’t find anything illicit in Simbhu’s village, ruled by the godmother Seema.
Lal tries - but to no avail - to nail somebody from the village for any charges and ends being thrashed up the villagers. Predictably, he returns back with a vengeance and in the dirty war, burns Seema alive. Enough reason for Simbhu to seek retribution for his loss. Simbhu returns to Chennai, uses the tried and tested formula to woo Lal’s daughter Vedhika, and after a couple of duets abducts her as a hostage on revenge of his grandmom’s death.
With a script that has more holes than a fish net, it’s evident that Simbhu could just not help the ship from sinking. However, his mind-boggling stunt scenes and the dance sequences especially for songs ‘Kutti Pisaase’ and ‘Kaalai Kaalai’ are stupendously performed. Particularly, Kutti Pisaase might send his fans on a nostalgic trip to the good old days when Simbhu sang and danced ‘I am a little star’.
Plus:
- Music
- R.D.Rajasekars camara
- action
Overall:
Action - nothing more, nothing less

Kaalai : Music Review

Tarun Gopi directed Silambarasan starrer has been in the news for the brisk pace in which it was shot. What left everyone guessing is the reason for this Yuvan loyalist to choose the up and coming GV Prakash Kumar to compose music for his Kaala. Whether the reasons for this change are purely artistic or otherwise we will let you to decide for yourself but as far as the quality of the music is concerned, we will give you our expert views.
- Eppo Nee - Madhusree
- Ghutka Lakkadi - Lucky Ali, Sunidhi Chauhan
- Kaala Kaala - Benny, Mamtha Mohandas
- Kutti Pisasae - Silambarasan, Suchitra
- Vanthutaanda Kaala – Rahul, Silambarasan, Benny
- Veeramulla - Manickavinayagam, Seergazhi Sivachidambaram
Overall G.V.Prakash Kumar seems to have taken it easy with this album, springing only a few surprises. Mamtha and Madhusree’s numbers stand out while the kuthu and pop number might appeal to the masses.

Asin pairs up with simbhu

Exit Lekha Washington, enter Asin: this is the latest news from the ‘Kettavan’ Unit! At the muhurat of his latest film ‘Silambattam’, Silambarasan said that he had made many changes in ‘Kettavan’. He evaded the question when asked whether the heroine Lekha was shown the door.Reliable sources, however, reveal that Silambarasan has decided to remove Lekha and rope in Asin in ‘Kettavan’.
Lets wait and watch.....
Simbhu's kaalai Ready 4 pongal

Silambarasan after his stint across TV channels is now back to doing what he does best, acting that is. The actor was dillydallying between the sets of Kaalai, Kettavan and Silambattam when fortunately Kettavan had to be postponed to make way for speedy completion of Kaalai.
To everybody’s surprise the film went as per schedule, thanks to the fast thinking director Tarun Gopi who managed time efficiently and is working towards a Pongal release without any hitches
