Rajinikanths kuselan rights is big

Rajinikanth-starrer Kuselan’s audio rights have been lapped up by Anil Ambani’s Big Music for Rs. 2.25 crores! Though several music companies have been vying with each other, Big Music finally emerged the winner in the bidding race. Kuselan’s music director, G.V. Prakash, happens to be the nephew of ace music director A.R. Rahman.

Surprisingly, the price for Kuselan is much higher than Sivaji’s audio rights. It is also worth mentioning here that Sivaji’s music was composed by G.V. Prakash’s uncle A.R. Rahman. The Kuselan album contains five songs for which Daler Mehendi Shankar Mahadevan, Kailash Kher, Shriya Ghosal, Hariharan among others have rendered their voices. The audio release is slated to be held in Chennai on June 30, 2008 by Big Music.

No to saroja?

Venkat Prabhu's forthcoming directorial venture Saroja is the talk of the town for its unconventional storyline. Every tidbit about this film is watched keenly by the industry. With Saroja reaching such a status, it really makes one wonder why Shruti Kamal (and Gauthami) rejected the offer to star in it. It may be recalled that Venkat Prabhu offered the role initially to them.

Well, the real reason is finally out. According to Venkat Prabhu, both Shruti and Gauthami were impressed with the storyline but felt that it would not be an apt launch pad for the former, as too many characters were involved. However, both the actresses have expressed their desire to star in his subsequent venture if it suited them. In tinsel town, you get to pick and choose if you have a star-parent!

Kuselan went on floors recently at Hyderabad when the news of the sudden demise of Raghuvaran reached the sets there. When super star heard the news, he was shell shocked for words. Actually the association between Rajinikanth and Raghuvaran dates back to Manidhan days. From then on, the duo has acted in many films, sometimes on the same side while in some films on the opposite camps. Superstar was drowned in sorrow and could not come to terms with Raghuvaran’s death. The entire unit observed two minute silence to mourn the death of the versatile actor. Following this, on March 20th, Telugu actor Shoban Babu died while performing yoga at his residence. This news also upset the Boss who seemed to have no words to express his sorrow. Shoban Babu’s death was also mourned by the unit.

Maestro A.R. Rahman’s appearance in public events, leave alone press meets, is a rare occurrence. And when he called the media to address them, it was indeed a surprise The occasion for this is the inauguration of his music school – KM Conservatory of Music. Addressing the media, Rahman said that this school would be for students wishing to pursue music courses either as a profession or a vocation. When the reporters quizzed him on the why he had named the school KM, the maestro refused to divulge it and said the explanation behind the title will remain a secret close to his heart. On composing music for the films of the Superstar, Rahman said he had worked with him several times earlier; his current projects with Rajini are Sultan the Warrior and Robot.

Rajini's next movie releases tommrow

Sivaji - The Boss didn’t even need subtitles to pull people to the theatres in Mumbai. The magic of Rajinikanth was so empowering. Now the Superstar is set to weave his magic one more time on the people of cosmopolitan, but with his previous movie. Yes, that’s right, now Chandramukhi will be released in Mumbai, in Hindi and the best part is that Rajinikanth himself will be rendering voice.

The movie will be released by Dilip Dhanwani of the Royal Film Company with 150 prints. This is a new record for a dubbed movie.

Chandramukhi though based on the Malayalam original, Manichitrathazhu starring Mohanlal, did exceptional business in Kerala. It also broke couple of records in Andhra. The movie ran for close to 900 days at Shanthi theatre in Chennai. Now it is all set to woo the Mumbai cinema fans. In-spite of Bhool Bhulaiyaa, the Akshay starrer, which was again based on Manichitrathazhu running well in the city, distributor Dilip Dhanwani is very confident of the movie’s prospects. Talking to Behindwoods he said, “Rajinikanth is a big brand here. Though the actor has stopped doing Bollywood movies, people remember him for his unique style. I am sure they will come to just see him.”

Kuselan latest

Any news, even a small one, about Rajini has always attracted great attention from all quarters. This time it’s about his next project for director P. Vasu, Kuselan. Currently, the music composition for the film is on at the Palmgrove Hotel, Chennai. Music director G.V. Prakash is said to have composed hundreds of tunes of which only two have been selected. This intense screening is probably to satisfy the superstar’s fans. Readers may be aware that Rajini’s fans threatened a music director some years ago when his music failed to create an impact.

The situation being what it is, not even the director is being spared this time. Rajini’s fans have been thronging P. Vasu’s residence to place their requests about how their idol should be portrayed in Kuselan. Vasu has assured them that their requests will be met. Amidst all this, the director has come out with a statement that Rajini’s role in Kuselan is not just a guest appearance as stated in the media, but that the Superstar will be seen in song and fight sequences.

aamir khan braks rajinikanths records

A.R.Murugadoss and Aamir Khan have managed to pull off a national level record for the highest distribution rights paid for a single movie yet! Yes, you heard it right: their Hindi Ghajini has garnered a whooping 90 crores in distribution price for its producers Madhu Verma and Allu Arivind. The Indian Film Company (IFC) has paid 53 crores to the producers of the movie for the domestic distribution rights. IFC had earlier distributed Jab We Met and Welcome, both of which have been profitable ventures. Overseas, satellite, online and home video rights collected another 40 crores.

This is quite a remarkable achievement considering the fact that not a single official still has been released about the movie yet.The movie is obviously heavy weight with Aamir fresh off his Taare Zameen Par success, A.R.Rahman as the music director (the inside story is that the director has composed some mind blowing music for the movie), Ravi K Chandran in charge of camera, and Murugadoss, one of the most commercially successful directors of the south at the helm. Asin plays the lead lady of Aamir, supported by Jiah Khan.Ghajini has managed to break the record set by Om Shanthi Om, which had collected 73 crores for its distribution rights.

Now for the really interesting side of all this: Aamir is not just looking to take away Shahrukh's record on the finance-side, but also on the physical side. He is gearing up to flaunt a six pack ala Shahrukh Khan. The actor is on a strict exercise regimen, building up muscles and pumping some iron.

Call it professional rivalry at its peak!

SRK challanges the BOSS

For some time now, Shahrukh Khan has been thinking of coming up with a grand scale special effects movie. Enter Shankar: who approaches him for Robot, his sci-fi epic. But after a few creative differences, the duo part.Shankar moves on, making his big project even bigger by roping in Rajinikanth and Aishwarya Rai, with the largest budget Indian cinema has conceived of so far. Now, Shahrukh responds by announcing that his Red Chillies banner plans to make the most expensive film in India with a budget of $25 million. Was SRK provoked/inspired by Shankar’s grand ambition?

While at the Berlin Film Festival, Shahrukh recently spoke to the legendary Hollywood trade magazine, Variety: "We are dedicating the next eight or nine months to taking the best technicians from around the world and asking them to help us make the best VFX film India has ever made. It will be madcap, over the top. I want it to be as beautiful as 'Spider-Man' in terms of effects,"The film is yet to be titled but we roughly know the plot: what happens when a bunch of children have all their wishes come true. Are wishes that come true always a good thing, or actually a nightmare disguised as a dream? The director of movies like Cash and Dus – Anubhav Sinha – will helm this mega project. What will excite VFX buffs is that Charles Darby, the man responsible for some of the special effects in Minority Report and The Matrix has been roped in. Apparently he has set up a VFX studio in Mumbai.

It will indeed be interesting to see what Shankar’s response will be. An even more grandly scaled movie than what SRK has in mind? After all, isn’t Shankar one of India’s initial special effects movie wizards?Such healthy professional rivalry will only help in the betterment of Indian cinema.

action king rajects robo

Robot, the prestigious venture of director Shankar after Sivaji seems to be the cynosure of the media ever since its announcement. The coming together of stalwarts of the industry like super star, Shankar and A R Rahman has increased the excitement and frenzy multifold. There were many rumors associated with the presence of Aishwarya Rai in this project which was put to rest some time back.

Now, news started leaking that action king Arjun will be doing the role of a villain in Robot. Arjun is currently shooting in Mumbai and when he was questioned on this, he said, "I have not been approached by anyone till date for Robot. This is only a rumor and I am totally clueless about the origin of this news. I am now busy with Aruvadai and Durai and I am discussing a few more scripts."

While shooting in Turkey for Mission Istanbul, I picked up a lot of stuff. It’s perhaps time to unwrap all of them. ”, says Shriya.

That will help the place retain a homely touch”, added the actress with excitement.Currently working on Kanthaswamy opposite Vikram in Tamil and Apoorva Lakhia’s Mission Istanbul, Sangeeth Sivan’s Ek in Hindi and Ashok Amritraj’s The Other End of The Line in English, the petite actress is all very excited about her future offerings.

Its kollywood valentine

Our movies are obsessed with love. No one –scholar, film critic or film buff – has been able to say why. To someone not familiar with our cinema, it might look like the same love story is being narrated over and over again. But we know that our cinema contains myriad variations on love. And they aren’t all romantic love stories either. The transcendent love between God and devotee, filial love between parents and children/ brothers and sisters, and platonic love between friends has also been movingly explored over a century of Indian cinema. The black and white devotional classic Meera (with M.S. Subalakshmi), Pasa Malar, Mudhal Maryadhai, Five Star, etc have evoked different forms of love. So, remember that Valentine wishes are exchanged not just by lovers but also by family, friends, teacher and students and owner and pet.

Among the many romantic love stories told by Kollywood, some are milestones. Nenjil Oru Alayam , Pathinaru Vayathinile, Alaigal Ooivathilai Kadhallukku Maryadhai, Alaipaiyuthey, Moondram Pirai and Kadhal are just a few out of several unforgettable Tamil movie love stories. We’d also like to mention, for the record, some films about forbidden love – between student and teacher (Azhiyadha Kolangal) a fan and the object of her passion (Sindhu Bhairavi). Nine times out of ten, lovers on screen come together or fall in love because they find each other beautiful or charming. In Sindhu Bhairavi, K.Balachander gave us a more tangible reason: his lovers share a passion -in this case, a love for music. For classical singer Sivakumar and music aficionado Suhasini, it’s a meeting of minds, of two soul mates coming together. They complement each other perfectly: she is passionate about what he is passionate and recognizes his genius; he knows he has a true fan and connoisseur in her, a woman who understands his art, his needs and his passion. The tragedy, of course, is that he doesn’t find this in his marriage.
